A Spirit-filled, tongue-speaking, demon-slaying evangelist whose faith is in Christ; and a drug addict whose faith is in Christ, are equally righteous in God’s eyes
ONLY BY FAITH…
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.” – Romans 3:22(NLT)
Our human nature is so works-, results-, and rewards-oriented (which is not entirely a bad thing). We feel like we need to do certain things, and/or stop doing certain things before God can fully accept us………but as with everything, God’s Kingdom is just the opposite of what makes sense in our world.
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ….” Nothing more, nothing less. The moment we think that our good behaviour or Christian deeds add to our righteousness, we’ve misunderstood the Gospel. Good deeds are great and biblical too, but they do not make you right with God. Only faith in Jesus does that…….and only faith.
The thing is: our deeds can never be good enough to get us right with God anyway….if it were up to our deeds, we would never get to be right with God.
“For everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” – Romans3:23 (NLT)
We’ve already all sinned, whether it’s once a year, or every minute…..and all sin is equally terrible in God’s eyes…..whether it’s addiction, fornication, lying, cheating, pirating music, killing……it’s all ugly to God.
You are unable to be right with God by your own efforts, by being a ‘good person’….. if you could, God wouldn’t have needed to send Jesus……He would have just waited for you to be born to show the world how to be righteous.
